This course is a comprehensive review designed to prepare students and medical laboratory professionals to take the international certification exam in Molecular Biology, MB(ASCPi). The course covers essential topics in the field of diagnostic molecular biology, including the basics of molecular science, molecular techniques, and laboratory application of molecular testing in the diagnosis of diseases.
Course Objectives:
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
• Explain the fundamental concepts of molecular science, including nucleic acid chemistry and structure–function relationships.
• Apply molecular techniques such as nucleic acid isolation, amplification, manipulation, separation, detection, and sequencing in laboratory practice.
• Demonstrate knowledge of laboratory operations, biosafety, and quality assurance principles in molecular biology.
• Evaluate the role of molecular methods in the diagnosis and monitoring of infectious diseases, genetic disorders, and oncology applications.
• Integrate molecular testing results with clinical findings for accurate interpretation and reporting.
Target Audience:
Medical Laboratory Science Graduates (MLS or MLT). Individuals seeking to take the ASCP certification exam to advance their careers in laboratory medicine.
Clinical Laboratory Professionals. Those already working in labs who want to solidify their knowledge and gain certification for career advancement.
